THE HISTORY OF MUSIC

Prehistoric Music
Prehistoric music, once more commonly called primitive music, is the name given to all music produced in preliterate cultures (prehistory), beginning somewhere in very late geological history. Traditional Native American and Australian Aboriginal music could be called prehistoric, but the term is commonly used to refer to the music in Europe before the development of writing there.

Ancient Music
"Ancient music" is the name given to the music that followed. The "oldest known song" was written in cuneiform, dating to 4,000 years ago from Ur. It was deciphered by Prof. Anne Draffkorn Kilmer (University of Calif. at Berkeley), and was demonstrated to be composed in harmonies of thirds, like ancient gymel (Kilmer, Crocker, Brown, Sounds from Silence, 1976, Bit Enki, Berkeley, Calif., LCC 76-16729), and also was written using aPythagorean tuning of the diatonic scale.

Indian Music
As regards Indian classical music in general, there are a huge number of modes (ragas). Musicians will elaborate a single mode in detail, largely through improvisation but also based on compositions and formal demands. There are also pieces (called "ragamala" or "ragamalika") in which modulations are employed. Individual pieces are shorter in Carnatic music, so recitals are constructed by selecting items in contrasting ragas.

Persian Music
The history of musical development in Iran [Persia] Persian music, dates back to the prehistoric era. The great legendary king, Jamshid, is credited with the invention of music. Music in Iran can be traced back to the days of the Elamite Empire (2,500-644 B.C). Fragmentary documents from various periods of the country's history establish that the ancient Persians possessed an elaborate musical culture. The Sassanian period (A.D. 226-651), in particular, has left us ample evidence pointing to the existence of a lively musical life in Persia.

Early Music
Main article: Early music Early music is a general term used to describe music in the European classical tradition from after the fall of the Roman Empire, in 476 CE, until the end of the Baroque era in the middle of the 18th century. Music within this enormous span of time was extremely diverse, encompassing multiple cultural traditions within a wide geographic area; many of the cultural groups out of which medieval Europe developed already had musical traditions, about which little is known. What unified these cultures in the Middle Ages was the Roman Catholic Church, and its music served as the focal point for musical development for the first thousand years of this period. Very little non-Christian music from this period survived, due to its suppression by the Church and the absence of music notation; however, folk music of modern Europe probably has roots at least as far back as the Middle Ages.

Medieval Music
The term medieval music encompasses European music written during the Middle Ages. This era begins with the fall of the Roman Empire and ends in approximately the middle of the fifteenth century. Medieval music While musical life was undoubtedly rich in the early Medieval era, as attested by artistic depictions of instruments, writings about music, and other records, the only repertory of music which has survived from before 800 to the present day is the plainsong liturgical music of the Roman Catholic Church, the largest part of which is called Gregorian chant. Pope Gregory I, who gave his name to the musical repertory and may himself have been a composer, is usually claimed to be the originator of the musical portion of the liturgy in its present form, though the sources giving details on his contribution date from more than a hundred years after his death.

Renaissance Music
Renaissance Music is European music written during the Renaissance. Defining the beginning of the musical era is difficult, given the gradually adopted "Renaissance" characteristics: musicologists have placed its beginnings from as early as 1300 to as late as the 1470s. Renaissance music The beginning of the Renaissance in music is not as clearly marked as the beginning of the Renaissance in the other arts, and unlike the Renaissance in the other arts, it did not begin in Italy, but in northern Europe, specifically in the area currently comprising central and northernFrance, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The style of the Burgundian composers, as the first generation of the FrancoFlemish school is known, was at first a reaction against the excessive. According to Margaret Bent (1998), "Renaissance notation is under-prescriptive by our standards; when translated into modern form it acquires a prescriptive weight that overspecifies and distorts its original openness." Renaissance compositions were notated only in individual parts; scores were extremely rare, and barlines were not used. Note values were generally larger than are in use today; the primary unit of beat was the semibreve, or whole note. As had been the case since the Ars Nova (see Medieval music), there could be either two or three of these for each breve (a double-whole note), which may be looked on as equivalent to the modern "measure," though it was itself a note value and a measure is not.

Classical Music
Classical period (music) The music of the Classical period is characterized by homophonic texture, or an obvious melody with accompaniment. These new melodies tended to be almost voice-like and singable, allowing composers at the time to actually replace singer(s) as the focus of the music. Instrumental music therefore quickly replaced opera and other sung forms (such asoratorio) as the favorite of the musical audience and the epitome of great composition. This is not to say that opera disappeared. Indeed, during the classical period, several composers began producing operas for the general public, in their native languages (previous operas were generally in Italian).
Given the extremely broad variety of forms, styles, genres, and historical periods generally perceived as being described by the term "classical music," it is difficult to list characteristics that can be attributed to all works of that type. Vague descriptions are plentiful, such as describing classical music as anything that "lasts a long time," a statement made rather moot when one considers contemporary composers who are described as classical; or music that has certain instruments like violins, which are also found in other genres; or "relaxing" or "background" music for affluent people, descriptions which are only accurate when describing court music from the Baroque and Classical periods. However, there are characteristics that classical music contains that few or no other genres of music contain.

Romantic Music
Romantic music as a movement does not refer to the expression and expansion of musical ideas established in earlier periods, such as the classical period, nor does it necessarily refer to romantic love, though that theme was prevalent in many works composed during this time period. More appropriately, romanticism describes the expansion of formal structures within a composition, making the pieces more passionate and expressive. Because of the expansion of form (those elements pertaining to form, key, instrumentation and the likes) within a typical composition, it became easier to identify an artist based on the work. The title character from a19th century performance ofWagner's opera Siegfried In the Romantic period, music became more expressive and emotional, expanding to encompass literature, art, and philosophy. Famous early Romantic composers include Schumann, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Bellini, andBerlioz. The late 19th century saw a dramatic expansion in the size of the orchestra, and in the role of concerts as part of urban society

20th Century Music
20th century music The 20th Century saw a revolution in music listening as the radio gained popularity worldwide and new media and technologies were developed to record, capture, reproduce and distribute music. Because music was no longer limited to concerts and clubs, it became possible for music artists to quickly gain fame nationwide and sometimes worldwide.
Twentieth-century music brought new freedom and wide experimentation with new musical styles and forms that challenged the accepted rules of music of earlier periods. The invention of electronic instruments and the synthesizer in the mid-20th century revolutionized popular music and accelerated the development of new forms of music. Eastern, Middle-Eastern, Latin and Western sounds began to mix in some forms.

Opinion For Music Learning

There is a very wrong If impression that the music is just the property of their academic or professional musicians. Almost all the midst of human life has been filled with music since of years ago. Start from the liturgy to the ceremony gemerlapnya nightlife. Now, the public interest against the more great music. Not only hear and enjoy, to learn music interest at this time is very high. But how should, how to learn music? To music education institutions, private home, or self-taught? the following tips for you.

Academic vs. self-taught?
The country's most successful musicians in the music industry is a self-taught. While academic musicians very rarely seen. Betulkah issue is academic self-taught vs. black vs. white issue? Certainly not simply that. But the issue will be discussed later. But the reality is that those who claim to also use the self-taught sciences even without academic disadarinya.

The issue is self-taught-academic issues ahead of the chicken-egg. Remove first then let the debate about the "chicken-egg" is. The more important this time is how to become a successful self-taught? (of course the word success here means success is not material gain but successful science).
Main requirement is for a self-taught self-will. Because to get a self-taught knowledge someone must "find themselves". Unlike the situation in an institution. What should be learned to stage the material that must be learned have been developed systematically (While many music institutions also did not have a system of teaching. This is very severe). But indeed the material that will be learned by self-taught and academically is the same. So the key is understanding first "map" in order not to lose. If the study with the book, bedakanlah between science book which gives the "IM" with a book that discusses the problem of a principal problem. This is almost the same as the expression: I do not give the fish hook. With the knowledge that mengakar create many problems to be solved much more easily. Unlike the knowledge of IM, which only give one answer to a problem.

Private education institutions or at home?

For those who study music education at the institution, the courses, or in private houses, of bebannya much less. Because the material has been prepared. So that the students receive lessons stay concentrate given. But diwaspadai need to, because not all music education institutions and human resources have a credible system. the success of a learning process depends on three factors: educators, students, and teaching system.
So learn anywhere, as long as the third faktornya support, the results will be satisfactory. The question then is, How do I know (especially) and a music educator teaching system is good? A good player who can not necessarily be a good educator. Before deciding to study at an educational institution or a certain someone who can teach music, it is better to ask first about the teaching syllabus.

For example, for the beginner level students:
  1. For beginner level will be what material?
  2. What techniques should be a beginner?
  3. Applications of this technique is applied at least at the track in what?
Similarly, information for students, questions about the material that will be taught. Of how it would look if a ready educators with teaching materials and systems that either do not? If you already have a system of educators and students to stay good now receive lessons concentrate carefully. In private institutions or at home, as well if a good system and human resources. The difference is if the education institutions that have been authorized, the student will receive a graduation certificate while the private, if not necessarily at home. But the private home to provide more relaxed atmosphere. So that the study affect the comfort, the quality of the arrest is related materials by students.

Music, the Universal Language Limited

The phrase "music is the universal language" has long become obsolete slogan, which only tends to be a sweetener in the articles of the music. While the expression of which is contra to the motion does not claim to believe.

The phrase is often a sense that is universal because everyone can enjoy, without further explanation. While for the counter claim if the music is a universal language, then of course the UN has been using music as a means of communication.

Music is not a conventional language such as Indonesian Language, English, Arabic, Chinese, and others. However, as a system that is capable of representing the atmosphere, feelings, and ideas, the music is able to exceed in the conventional language what is universal. However, music is not able to convey the message more specific.

As a "universal language", music to easily convey the feeling-the feeling of a global, such as: sad, happy, spirit, haru, and others, to all mankind. However, quite difficult to convey the message simple and specific. Such "Mother wanted to go to market" or "Goat is very fat." On the specific kind of message is easily delivered by conventional language, but in limited linguistic community.

In the language of music, both western and eastern people will agree that the song is not a flower fallen lilt, while the songs and seek Destroynya Metalica song is not sad. Because the music was delivered to anyone in the womb it's universal.

Is all the technical people will agree that the major akor more can be said is "bright" compared akor minor. The same is not subject to all over the world ters if the interval is the interval konsonant while seconde interval is dissonant intervals. Situlah location in the primary language universality music.

Music and Lyrics.
As a language, has two elements musikpun symbol. Both the oral form of the symbol rhythm and tone, and any posts symbols (text) form of notation, tablatur, graphics, and others. However, the position between verbal symbols and text in music does not quite equal as in the conventional language in general.

In the conventional language, both oral and written relativ able to convey the message quite clear what diembannya. Meanwhile, in the music, the language of text that is not quite as universal language lisannya.

A symbol akor C Major, or A minor, is not universal enough in describing how the atmosphere is brought. Meanwhile, if the text dilisankan, then it will direct the womb feels universal.

When the habit in the form of popular music add lyric (conventional languages, or often referred to with the lyrics) to the melody in a song, the lyrics tibalah time silent melody, harmony, and rhythm to convey the message more specific. But at the same limit as well keuniversalannya.

National songs are usually delivered with a palpable sense of guts on the entire human being in the world, apart from the chaos of the cross of two or three koplet lyrics are authentic. However, specific message about freedom and love of the country of Indonesia will not be until the lyrics that anyone without them.

Limited Language
Is a keniscayaan if each language has limitations. Because the language just shadow of every idea in the mind of man. The whole language is not capable of something like the picture he is in himself.

Such a simple concept atmosphere grief, an-sich, not simply be described with the word depression itself. Especially for people who can not speak Indonesian. Alphabetical order of sorrow, Just one does not have any meaning related to the atmosphere of grief itself. While the concept of a global kind of "depression" will be more universal when expressed in the form of music.

In the conventional language manapunpun, to the concept of a more complex, meaning the word "God" for example. Will never be able to describe "God" as He is in himself. Moreover, the language seglobal music. Certainly not easy.

Universal language can be captured easily by anyone. But always have a lack of material limitations to express something specific. Facial expression, for example, angry or sad expression of a universal face can be read by all men in the world. However, expression does not quite able to define the word "culture" for example.

Similarly, the language of music is universal, but limited to the global sense-feelings. Reasonable if the music is not able to convey the idea, or a more specific description. Of course if there is a musician who is able to convey ideas with a specific language to music (without lyrics) should be acknowledged that he was a musician who is very strong.

However, the music will be felt very universal when we compare the language used of God in the universe set. Because the use of language with the use of the same set in the music. There is melody, harmony, and rhythm.
